How to start and stop water service

Please apply at the Waterworks Department 3 business days before by telephone or fax.
Business hours:8:30 AM to 5:15 PM (Except for Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays)

Meter Reading of Water Supply

Meter Readers will visit once every two months during the beginning of the month (1st to 10th day).

Method of Water Service Bill Payment

Please pay the metered water bill once every two months until the end of the month when the reading is done.
Payment can either be made in cash or through a bank account transfer.

Bank Account Transfer

Setting up an automatic withdrawal from a designated account is an extremely convenient payment method.
You can apply at any Financial Institution within the city or Waterworks Department in the City Hall.
However, if you apply through a Financial Institution, please bring the necessary documents (Like Meter Reading Slip) that show your Water Service Number because it is necessary to have it when filling out the application form.

Cash Payment

A “Water Services Bill” will be sent around every 20th of the month when the meter reading is done.
Payment can be made at Financial Institutions, convenience stores, City Hall, or branch offices.

 Garbage

Garbage collection days and time for each type of garbage is designated depending on the area where you are living.
If you do not follow the fixed garbage sorting instructions, days and time, and if you will not throw the garbage until 8:00 in the morning, it will not be collected.
Furthermore, if there are rules (Use of garbage bag/Indication of group number) being implemented by the neighborhood or apartment/mansion management association, please follow them.

 Municipal Housing

Municipal Housing is a low-rent option for low-income earners who need housing.

Occupant Qualifications

  • For foreigners, they must have a period of stay of more than 1 year.
  • Must have relatives who currently live with you or who are going to live with you.
  • Evidently in need of housing.
  • Must meet the income criteria.
  • Must not be delinquent in payment of municipal tax.
  • Neither the occupant nor the person who is going to live together with them must be a member of a gang or yakuza.
  • A person who can appoint one joint guarantor or designate one. A person who has executed a loan guarantee consignment contract with a rent liability guarantee company.

 CHONAIKAI

Chonaikai (Neighborhood Association) or Jichikai (Residents’ Association), an organization consisting of residents, helps to maintain safety and offers social benefits in the community.
In addition, they offer local welfare programs, support with children’s programs, cooperative neighborhood clean-ups, and recreational activities.
Furthermore, the chonaikai provides helpful information for daily life, news from the city hall and community, and disaster prevention training on the assumption that disaster occurs.
Joining the chonaikai or Jichikai is very important for leading a safe and comfortable life.
To join, please inquire at your local chonaikai or Jichikai.
If you do not have the telephone number of your chonaikai or Jichikai, please ask the Citizens Collaboration Department.

 Public Transportation

Anjo City public transportation offers railroad (JR Tokaido Shinkansen, JR Tokaido Main Line, Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line, Meitetsu Nishio Line), bus (Meitetsu Bus, Ankuru Bus), and taxi services.

Ankuru Bus

The Ankuru Bus operates as a means of transportation to go downtown and back to the city’s main facilities.

Fare

Adult and children: 100 yen per one ride
*Pre-school children are free of fare.
*Monthly pass is available on the bus at 1000 yen.

Bus fares for Anjo City residents aged 75 and over or Disabled Person's Booklet Holder are free of charge by showing the certificate issued by the city office to the driver.
There is a system that issues free tickets for up to two years to those under the age of 75 who have voluntarily returned all driver's licenses that are still valid. For details, please contact the Civil Safety Division (71-2219).

Registration of Dogs

Dogs are required to be registered once in their lifetime.
Registration License Tag will be issued after registration.
License Tags should be put on dog collars.
Registration Fee:3,000 yen per head
Registration Place:Collective Injection Center, Outsourced Animal Hospitals, Environment City Promotion Department of City Hall

Preventive Injections Against Rabies

Dogs that are 91 days old and above are obligated for preventive injections against rabies once a year.
For registered dogs in Anjo City, guide letters will be sent to the object persons.

Cremation of the Pets

In case you wish to have your deceased pets, such as dogs and cats, etc, cremated, please bring the remains of the pets in plastic bags or carton bags to the “Sogo-Saien (General Funeral Hall).
Reservations are not required, and bones cannot be taken home as it is a mass funeral.
Do not use Styrofoam or plastic case.

 Rules for the Habitants

Rules for Walkers

  • If there are no sidewalks, walk on the right side of the road.
  • When you cross a road that has no stop light, walk on the pedestrian crossing.
  • If there is a stop light, stop and follow the signal.

Rules on riding the bicycle

  • When you ride a bicycle, use the roadway.
    Passing through the sidewalk is for special cases.
  • When you pass through the roadway, use the left side of the road.
  • Walkers are the priority on sidewalks, pass through the side of the roadway.
  • If there is a stop light, stop and follow the signal.
    In other cases, traffic signs must be followed.
  • Do not ride the bicycle when you are drunk, double-riding, and without turning on lights during evenings.
  • Do not ride by lining up aside other bicycles.
  • Stop at the intersections and follow the stop light signals.
  • A guardian has an obligation to make children wear helmets.

Rules on riding a car

  • Do not drive when drunk.
  • When riding a car, you should put on the seatbelt on the driver’s seat, front passenger’s seat, back seat, and all other seats, if available.
  • When riding with a child below 6 years old, it is mandatory to use a child’s seat.
  • Do not use cell phones when driving a car.

Basically, parking on the street is not acceptable in Japan.
When you park a car, verify first the place where you can park before stopping the car.

Rules on living

  • Rules implemented in your residing area for garbage disposal should be followed.
  • Do not throw garbage and pour used oils on the kitchen drain.
  • Be careful about making extreme noise exceeding normal volume, especially during the evening and early morning.
    These could be loud conversation voices, music sounds, and television volume.
  • Do not place things on the apartment house’s veranda because it is being used as an emergency exit most of the time.

Prohibited Area for Smoking While Walking

Smoking while walking in public places is extremely dangerous because it may result in an undesirable effect on health due to passive smoking and may cause burns, especially to children.
In Anjo City, smoking while walking is prohibited in areas around JR Anjo Station, Mikawa Anjo Station (Shinkansen, Zairaisen), and Meitetsu Shin-Anjo Station’s vicinities.
