Child allowance is paid to those who are raising children up to high school age (until the first March 31st after they reach the age of 18), and in principle, both the parent and child must have an address in Japan (their main place of residence must be in Japan).
To receive the child allowance, you must apply at the city, town, or village where the parent is registered as a resident. In principle, the allowance will be paid from the month following the application date.
The payment will be transferred to the designated account on the 10th of the payment month, two months at a time.
However, if the 10th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the payment will be made on the immediately preceding business day of financial institutions.

Allowances for single-parent families include child support allowance, Aichi Prefecture orphan allowance (prefecturally specific), and Anjo City orphan allowance (city specific). These are paid to those who are caring for or raising a child (child support allowance only, or under 20 if the child has a certain disability) under the age of 18 (until the first March 31st after the child turns 18) due to divorce, death, etc., or whose father or mother has a severe disability (equivalent to Class 1 disability pension).
Each allowance has limitations based on income (of the applicant and co-resident family members) and receipt of public pensions.
Child support allowances will be transferred to the designated account on the 11th of every odd-numbered month, and Aichi Prefecture orphan allowances and Anjo City orphan allowances will be transferred on the 25th of every odd-numbered month, in two-month installments.
However, if the payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, the payment will be made on the immediately preceding business day of the financial institution.
